Computer Science SL/HL
The IB DP Computer science course requires an understanding of the fundamental concepts of computational thinking as well as knowledge of how computers and other digital devices operate. The course, underpinned by conceptual thinking, draws on a wide spectrum of knowledge and enables and empowers innovation, exploration and the acquisition of further knowledge. Students study how computer science interacts with and influences cultures, society and how individuals and societies behave, and the ethical issues involved.
The IB DP Computer Science standard level (SL) course four core topics (Duration 80 Hours), one optional topic (Duration 30 Hours), one internal assessment solution (Duration 30 Hours) and a group 4 project(Duration 10 Hours).
The assessment model of Computer Science SL consists of two papers. Paper 1 is a 1.5 hours exam which contains compulsory short-answer questions and compulsory structured-questions, weighing 45% of the final grade. Paper 2 is a 1-hour exam based on the optional topic studied, weighing 25% of the final grade. The internal assessment is based on a development of a computational solution (Duration 30 Hours) weighing 30% of the final grade.
The IB DP Computer Science higher level (HL) course contains four core topics (Duration 80 Hours), three HL extension topics (Duration 45 Hours), one case study (Duration 30 Hours), one optional topic (Duration 45 Hours), one internal assessment solution (Duration 30 Hours) and a group 4 project (Duration 10 Hours).
The assessment model of Computer Science HL consists of three papers. Paper 1 is an hour 10 minutes exam which contains several compulsory short-answer questions and five compulsory structure-questions, weighing 40% of the final grade. Paper 2 is an hour 20 minutes exam based on optional topic weighing 20% of the final grade. Paper 3 is an hour exam which contains four compulsory questions based on previously seen case study, weighing 20% of the final grade. The internal assessment (2000 words maximum) weighs 20% of the final grade.
